5 Fun Free Things to Do at the Beach
Free things to do at the beach
You’ve waited months and driven hours to get your beach fix. Now that you’re there, you find a perfect spot to sprawl out and soak up the sun while you breathe in the ocean air and gaze out at the soul-lifting scenery.
Thirty minutes pass and your mind begins to drift with the tide. Can this possibly be happening – can you be bored at the beach?
While people often go to the beach to swim or tan, the time spent there can be much more fulfilling if you include a few of our five fun and free things to do at the beach.
Gather seashells
You’ll find an array of cool-looking seashells on just about any beach. Be sure to bring along a bucket, large cup or bag to collect your shells. Oh, and be sure to remove only the shells that house no living creature.
Dine al fresco
The more popular beaches offer plenty of food concessions, but seaside eateries can really soak you. Beat the crowds – and the high prices – by packing a nice picnic lunch or dinner. Cheese and crackers, sandwiches or even fried chicken work well. Salads and fruits make nice sides or handy snacks.
Catch up on your reading
It’s far from a novel idea, but turning your attention to a taut page-turner can make tanning less tiresome. Just be careful to not get too caught up in what you’re reading or you’ll burn baby, burn. Do be sure to slather on the sunscreen before you turn to page one.
Enjoy a royal undertaking
Feel like a kid again and build a sandcastle. You know you want to. But if you prefer to “act your age,” try your hand at a sand sculpture instead. You won’t need special tools – just sand, water and your hands will do the trick. We recommend a cup or plastic pail to carry your sand and water. Be sure to take plenty of photos because high tide will make your creation go bye-bye.
Sunrise, sunset
Watching the sun rise or set is a great way to set your spirit ablaze. Beaches that face the east are super vantage points for dawn’s early light, while west-facing beaches are prime locations for awe-inspiring end-of-day sunsets.
Hope to see you along the coast soon.
