Life’s a Beach
The pleasing scent of the salt air. The soothing sounds of the crashing waves. That fabulous feeling of the sole-warming sand beneath our feet.
Aaaahhhhh… life’s a beach, my friends.
It turns out there’s a reason we can’t help but follow the siren song of the sea. Spending time along the coast not only makes us feel better but can actually improve our mental and physical health!
According to research highlighted by NBC, being at the beach – a place they refer to as our “Blue Space” – gives us an incredible feeling of peace and calmness.
“The color blue has been found by an overwhelming amount of people to be associated with feelings of calm and peace,” says Richard Shuster, PsyD. “Staring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves’ frequency and puts us into a mild meditative state.”
A few ways Blue Space benefits us:
- It reduces stress.
- It makes us more creative.
- It washes away depression.
- It changes our perspective on life … in a good way!
So, START coasting through life and hit the beach more often. Your brain – and your friends – will thank you!
